Antisemitism in Poland: Psychological Antecedents, Current Dynamics and Scale of the Problem

Abstract:

Center for Research on Prejudice at the University of Warsaw conducted several nation-wide surveys of antisemitism in Poland (mainly as part of our ongoing survey program Polish Prejudice Survey).

Based on these studies we are able to assess the extent the scale of antisemitism in current Poland in its three dominant forms: conspiracy-based antisemitism; Holocaust-related secondary antisemitism and the most traditional religious antisemitism.

The presentation will discuss psychological and economical antecedents of antisemitic prejudice in Poland and review all survey studies that show the dynamics of antisemitism. Finally, we will discuss the limitations of survey method in assessing the level of antisemitism, based on experiments performed in the Center.
